作品英文描述

Both postcards use the silhouette of a sea turtle as the main framework, connecting the life cycle of Taiwan’s mountains, cities, and oceans. The stream of water running through the composition symbolizes the purity and vitality that nature should possess.
The first postcard presents Taiwan’s current environmental condition: widespread deforestation has weakened the land’s ability to retain water, causing rivers to dry up, while the ocean has become a silent graveyard filled with plastic and waste.
The second postcard envisions the hope that emerges as environmental awareness awakens—forests regrow, cities coexist with nature, and the ocean regains its vibrant life.
As the water flow reconnects mountains, cities, and oceans within the sea turtle silhouette, it symbolizes the restoration of balance between humanity and nature. With the willingness to change, the flow of life can return to clarity, opening the path toward a sustainable future.

創作動機

When we began thinking about this theme, it actually started from small observations in our everyday lives. News about landslides, the feeling of increasingly extreme weather in the city, or simply picking up trash during a walk on the beach—these scattered moments gradually made us realize that environmental issues are all connected. The mountains, cities, and oceans on this island may look separate, but they are affected by the same pressures. Yet, we rarely viewed them as one integrated system. As these impressions accumulated, we started wondering whether there might be a way to link these fragments together, helping others notice the same connections we slowly became aware of. That idea became the foundation of our project. Through this theme, we hope to present a clearer, more intuitive picture of the relationship between people and the environment, while also reminding ourselves that paying attention is the first step toward change.

心得與反思

While creating these two postcards centered on the silhouette of a sea turtle, we truly incorporated environmental issues into our visual work for the first time. At first, deforestation, dried-up rivers, and oceans filled with trash felt somewhat distant from us. But as we broke these issues down into visual elements and rearranged them inside the sea turtle silhouette, we suddenly realized how closely connected they actually are—and how much they relate to our daily lives.
Seeing the broken water cycle in the first postcard made us feel a bit heavy, while designing the second postcard, which conveys hope, made us reflect on what it would take for people to finally take action. Through this creation process, we learned that “sustainability” isn’t some huge, abstract concept—it’s something shaped by the small choices each of us makes every day.
This project helped us understand that design isn’t just about looking good; it’s about whether it can make someone pause and think. Moving forward, we want to continue using our designs to record, remind, or even spark change. Even if the impact is small, at least we’re moving toward something better.
